Home assistance eligibility
Program rules · Version 1 · October 11, 2026
Who qualifies
- Homeownership and residency: You own the home and live there as your primary residence. Ownership must be verified before work is approved. If ownership is unclear, contact us for a review.
- Financial need: Your household cannot reasonably afford the necessary work after meeting essential living expenses. We review income, household size, essential expenses, available resources, and the repair cost. There is no fixed income cutoff; an income bracket alone does not qualify or disqualify you.
- Essential need: The work must address home health or safety, accessibility, weather protection, or a condition affecting safe daily living.
- Service availability: Our current focus is Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas. We confirm whether your address is within reach of available crews and resources. Requests outside this area may be considered individually; service is not promised.
- Project feasibility: The homeowner must consent to the work and allow agreed access. The project must be safe, legally permitted, and achievable with available funding, materials, and qualified workers.
Financially disadvantaged homeowners of any adult age may qualify. Older adults aged 60 or above and households that include a person with a physical disability receive priority when needs and available resources are reviewed.
What we can help with
Essential repairs, safety improvements, ramps, grab bars, and other accessibility modifications. The approved scope is set after assessment; submitting a request does not mean every requested repair will be covered.
We do not provide cosmetic or luxury remodeling, new construction, repairs to rental or investment properties, or unrestricted cash payments. Projects beyond our safe working capacity may be referred to another resource.
How applications are reviewed
- We review the application and contact you to clarify your circumstances.
- We may request proof of homeownership, primary residency, and household financial need, and arrange a home assessment. Ask about alternative documentation if a usual document is unavailable.
- We prioritize serious health and safety hazards, accessibility barriers, household vulnerability, and financial need. Applications are not decided solely by arrival order.
- We contact you with the outcome and, if approved, explain the written work scope and next steps. Eligible requests may wait for resources.
Every request receives an individual, fair review. There are no automatic approvals or rejections based on form answers. You may ask for reconsideration if information was incorrect or circumstances change.
Do not submit Social Security numbers, banking credentials, or medical diagnoses through this form. We will explain any later documentation request directly.
This program is not an emergency response service. For an immediate danger, call 911 or the appropriate utility emergency line.
